Marc Newman has become the first person to complete a Dungeness to France channel crossing.
With conditions perfect for an attempt at the crossing, Marc set off from Dungeness, Kent at 8:30 am on Friday morning. Some 16 hours and 9 minutes, just after midnight on Saturday 23rd of July Marc came ashore south of Boulogne-sur-Mer.
The traditional route to swim the English Channel is approximately 21 miles and lies between Dover and Calais. Starting at Dungeness takes the total distance up to 26 miles. The swim has been attempted a couple of times - including an attempt by Marc in 2015 - but has never been completed before today.
Marc was supported by the CSA pilot boat Sea Leopard, skipper Stuart Gleeson and coach/CSA Vice President Tom Watch.
